SHOUKI
During the days before the great wars that would result in the villages the Shouki served the people as capable healers. They traded their skills to other Clans for whatever they needed. It went on like that for some time. They became masters of Medical Ninjutsu and relied on the knowledge of natural herbs to amplify their talents. However, when conflict and war broke out something changed within the Shouki. Their abilities to heal made them ideal targets for other Clans who hoped to force them into working for them during the battles that raged across the world. It was this perceived weakness that forced the Clan to change themselves
The Shouki transitioned their focus sculpting their knowledge specifically to those herbs that inflicted harm to others. The Clan used the wars to get their hands on no shortage of test subjects for their poisons. However, when subjects were not available they tested the poisons on themselves. The Clan even went so far as to change their name to the Shouki, the Miasma, stripping their old name from their oral history to signify this new era.
It is difficult to say how much time passed before the change occurred among the Shouki. What is known though is that testing on themselves caused a curious side effect. The people of the Shouki found their bodies changing, adapting. Whether the drugs they created mutated their bodies or the threat of extinction by self-poisoning caused the clan to biologically evolve is unknown. The poisons that once killed or harmed their people no longer did so. Instead the Shouki found that with the use of Chakra they could manipulate poisons inside their body and use it against their foes. This revelation caused them to study and rely on poisons even more so. They found ways to utilize these poisons even for interrogation and torture. They also devised a style of Taijutsu that could become a deadly combination with their newfound abilities. That is how the Clan progressed for the years to follow.
Although not spoken aloud it is even a tradition to train Shouki children to resist torture and to learn how to torture while they are within the academy. There have been more than a few children who could not withstand the mental pressures put on them and “broke”, leaving them unusable by the clan. These circumstances have limited the population of the clan, but have not made it extinct.
The Clan is kept in check by a high infant mortality rate within the clan. Whatever is going on with the Shouki it is clear that the protein is a genetic mutation. Therefore it is not uncommon for babies to be born without the protein, especially infants whose parents are not both from the Shouki clan. Due to the biology of a Shouki member it makes things difficult because either the mother’s womb, which is lined with poison, shall kill the infant or if the mother is not Shouki then there is the possibility of the fetus killing the mother through its poison before he or she can properly mature.
The Clan is led by an elder and is supported by a council of older clansmen. These powerful figures make the laws of their Clan and dictate how the clan shall move forward. For generations their policy has simply been not to move forward. Despite the losses of their own kind through their methods they believe that things are going well and keep a conservative stance on all their decisions. Perhaps things will change in the future, but for now there is no sense of change happening any time soon.
Kekkei Genkai/Traits
Dokuyoke (Protection Against Poison) is a special protein that has evolved within the Clan. This protein’s sole purpose was to bind to any poison or toxins that invaded the body and then create antibodies to combat them. These poisons and toxins also lingered in the body infusing the chemicals into the Shouki’s blood, mucus membranes, and sweat glands. In order for the protein to survive in the host’s body it has also affected the Shouki’s blood pH levels. The average pH level for a Shouki is between 6.2 and 6.4, whereas the average human’s pH of 7.0 to 7.7. The protein will denature in a pH above 7.0; thus, a fluid from the Shouki's body enters the body of a non-Shouki, the protein denatures and ceases function, no longer able to sustain itself. The toxins then become free to affect the target body. The acidic nature of the Shouki's blood indicates that they should stay away from alkaline foods, such as milk; if their blood pH rises over 7.0, they will be unable to sustain the protein themselves and fall victim to their own toxins.
The major ability of the Shouki is their resistance to poisons, toxins, truth serums, and other dangerous psychedelic drugs. They are completely immune to them and in fact utilize their bodies as weapons, harboring toxins to use on others. The Shouki Clan has also mastered the use of their bloodline for combat oriented purposes. Their blood is famously used to taint their weapons and can poison their victims when entered into the enemy’s bloodstream. The mucus membrane that lines their esophagus allows them to poison their breath and therefore after building up chakra can blow out poisoned smog. At higher levels a shinobi of the Shouki Clan can even force chakra into their very pores, enlarging them and sending out the poison from their sweat glands. Clan members have used this technique to not just create clouds of poison, but by continuing to force out their chakra they can surround their body with toxic fumes that make Taijutsu a dangerous option for their enemies. At the highest levels their poisons become so strong that they can bypass needing to be inhaled and can directly affect a person through their skin.
Generally a Shouki Clan member is at first only able to produce a very weak poison. Though they might be immune to far stronger toxins it takes a high level of control over one’s chakra and body in order to bypass the weaker poisons and excrete the more lethal varieties. Therefore, those clan members of high ranking tend to have excellent control over their chakra, rarely wasting any when performing jutsu. A non-combat oriented ability which makes them excellent torturers is the skill to create a sort of truth serum out of their tears. By pouring chakra into their tear ducts they secrete a concoction that when digested or when given directly into the bloodstream can make it almost impossible for the victim to lie. Though the compulsion to speak isn’t so great that a higher ranking shinobi couldn’t resist it, it does make lying impossible. Therefore the serum is usually coupled with torture so that the torture can loosen the tongue of the victim while the serum ensures his honesty.

It should also be noted that although it is implied that the Shouki take in the poisons used by others in order to incorporate it into the arsenal of poisons at their disposal this is typically more of an RP justification to the creation of various Poison Jutsu used by the Clan.))

The user focuses chakra up from their lungs. As it moves up the esophagus chakra draws out poison from the mucus membrane lining the throat and imbues it into the air gathered in the throat. By the time it reaches the mouth it is a noxious gas. The gas takes on a purple hue and although seemingly thick like smog from a distance it is actually not very dense and easy to see through. The poison gas only lasts one post before dispersing and is non-lethal. If the poison is inhaled the victim will suffer from slight dizziness and short of breath. Also the poison will agitate the eyes causing blurry vision as well as the other side effects for up to 2 posts. Due to the makeup of the poison one would need to have created an antidote for it specifically ahead of time or be Shouki clansmen to counter the effects.

By pouring chakra into their fingernails they are able to momentarily speed up the process of growth giving them long, sharp, dagger like nails which can be used to cut into the skin of their opponents. The nails can grow anywhere from 1 inch to 3 or 4 inches depending on the amount of chakra used during the jutsu as well as the skill of the shinobi using the jutsu. At D-Rank the nails are only as sturdy as normal human nails and thus cannot withstand the sharpness of an actual blade. The nails will remain at this length for up to 2 posts following which they will become brittle and break until only freshly cut fingernails remain.

The Jutsu modifies the way light is perceived within the retina. The Doujutsu alters perceived light so that it is not bent by water or dust particles thus enabling the user to see through mist, fog, and smog. The effect will last for 5 posts before eyesight returns to normal. The Jutsu does not enhance vision beyond the ability to allow sight through fog, smog, and mist. One can only see through such environments only as far as one can typically see even when not within fog, smog, or mist.

By concentrating on the blood vessels inside their body they are able to focus their chakra along the chakra circulatory system that runs parallel to the circulatory system and concentrate the poisons in their blood to a higher level in that one point of the body. From there a simple cut will bleed them. They can now use this higher concentrated blood for whatever purposes they choose; whether it is coating their weapons or for their own concoctions of antidotes and poisons. The poisoned blood will remain potent for the remainder of the thread, but eventually the poison will begin to degrade and wear off upon leaving the thread. The poison must be introduced to the victim’s bloodstream and once done only needs a single post to circulate and begin to affect the opponent. The poison is a paralytic designed to make the body feel sluggish and slow down the reaction time of the victim. In higher doses it can hinder movements in infected limbs restricting the use entirely. These effects will last only for 2 posts, but can continue and even compound if the poison is continually re-introduced to the system. Generally one would need to be exposed to the poison in a particular area continually before the paralytic prevented any movement within the limb. If the effects are never given a chance to wear off and the victim is subjected to them continually over several posts than one can expect multiple points of the body to be effected as the poison spreads from the locations it has been introduced and begins to make its way across the body through the circulatory system.

The user gathers his chakra and after performing the necessary handseals is able to gather air in his lungs. While bringing it up through his esophagus he imbues it with poison that lines the esophagus through the mucus membrane. When it is finally dispelled from the mouth it takes the form of the user and acts as a bunshin clone might. Since the clones are made of poison vapors they are not able to touch the physical world. However, they are able to perform any D-rank jutsu known by the user that utilizes poison. When the clones disperse due to physical damage or sent away by the user they turn back into formless poison vapors. If breathed in the vapors immediately constrict the esophagus cutting air flow to the body. The constriction doesn't completely prohibit breathing, but it does inflict an intense coughing fit that lasts for 3 posts making any extraneous activity difficult for that time due to lack of oxygen.

The jutsu is an improved version of the original learned by Shouki when they are first becoming shinobi. As such it is much improved from the weaker version. Not only will the nails remain lengthened for the remainder of the thread, but they have also become considerably more durable able to withstand the onslaught of steel weapons and similarly as sharp. It should be noted that weapons imbued with Chakra through a Jutsu or special weapons that consume Chakra in order to be used do have the ability to cut through the nails unless specifically stated to only be as sharp as typical steel.

The user throws up five umbrellas into the air. When the user performs the necessary handseals a barrage of senbon needles fly at the enemy from sockets in each umbrella. They come at the enemy from all directions and are controlled by chakra to increase accuracy. These needles have been known to have the power to pierce 5 mm of steel. Each needle has been hand prepared by the user and doused in poison using Akuchi no Jutsu. If struck by less than 10 needles the victim will suffer the slowing down of reaction time. If 10 to 20 needles break the victim’s skin then the limb or body part punctured will become temporarily paralyzed. Up this point all effects will only last the 2 posts unless compounded further through future use of the Akuchi no Jutsu. If the victim is struck with a majority of the needles than the poison will quickly begin to spread with no signs of slowing down even without further introduction of the poison. If medical attention isn't obtained shortly than within 3 posts the poison will travel to the heart and lungs restricting air flow and blood flow incapacitating the victim and killing them in 2 posts following unconsciousness.
Name: Enmu no Jutsu (Smog Technique)

The user performs the necessary handseals and then pours their Chakra into the very pores of their body enlarging them beyond normal human capability. The same Chakra used to open the pours also increases the production of poison through the sweat glands and then expels that poison out of the glands in the form of non-lethal smog. The smog last for 5 posts and can cover about 10 meters in every direction including skyward. Once the smog is created though it remains sedentary therefore allowing those trapped inside it to easily escape if they only move in a single direction long enough. At first glance the smog is a dark fog that limits sight within to almost zero visibility. However, the poisonous fog is made up of a combination of chemicals that if breathed in create a unique reaction in the human body. The chemicals in the air of the fog when breathed in send a signal to the brain tricking it into acting as if the smog is food. Unlike normally where the gas would make its way down the trachea into the lungs, the smog instead travels down the esophagus into the stomach. Once in the stomach the smog soaks into the lining of the stomach and begins to create strong and violent muscle contractions within the abdominal muscles and diaphragm. At first the only evidence of the effect is a feeling of nausea that builds as the body begins to dry heave. However, after 2 posts the contractions become too much for the stomach and the victim will begin to vomit uncontrollably if they do not escape the smog. The effect will last for only 1 post once having left the smog. However, so long as the victim remains in the smog they will continue vomiting and find it hard to concentrate enough to perform any hand seals.

The user performs the necessary handseals and then while holding down the Ox seal will breathe in deeply and then out through his nose. The poison in the mucus membrane will seep into the air pushed out through the nose and produce an odorless and colorless sleeping gas. As long as the user remains still the gas will spread 5 meters every post in every direction. For every post the Jutsu remains active the user must continue to commit Chakra. If the victim(s) become aware of what is happening they are more resistant to its effects and only need to get out of the inflicted area for a single post in order to avoid the dangers of falling asleep. After the first post victims will begin to feel drowsy and tired, but by the second they will pass out and it would take physical force to wake them up, a weak punch or kick would suffice. If the victim is aware of what is going on then they can stave off the effects for up to 4 posts. However, due to its lack of smell and that it is invisible to the naked eye it would take prior knowledge of the jutsu to easily discern what the effects were and its danger. Once Chakra is no longer being supplied the Jutsu will immediately end and any victim(s) who have not fallen asleep will immediately lose any sense of drowsiness and be fully awake. Those who fell under the effects will continue to sleep until awaken through physical force as previously mentioned.

After performing the necessary handseals the user concentrates chakra up into their tear ducts. Tears are then forced from their eyes which have been mingled with a concoction of drugs specifically crafted to act as a truth serum. The serum must either be ingested or placed directly into the bloodstream. The serum takes one post to begin working, but even in that initial post the victim will begin to start feeling the effects and will get drowsy. The serum works so that the victim feels compelled to tell the truth and any attempt to lie comes out cut off as if the words have been taken right out of their mouth. Any Chuunin/C-Rank or below is unable to resist any of the effects and will not even be able to keep themselves from speaking. A Tokubetsu Jounin will find themselves able to subdue the occasional sentence while a Jounin as well as a Kage level shinobi will be able to resist speaking almost the whole time. Adding physical or mental trauma like torture helps weaken the will of the victim and can make forcing the truth out of them easier. The Serum will last for 4 posts and can only be redelivered a total of 3 times in a row before the victim either builds a tolerance or dies of overdose.

The user performs the necessary handseals and then channels chakra into their very skin. By doing this they enlarge the pores on their body to even greater proportions then what is normally humanly possible. Once that step is completed the user emits poison from their sweat glands in an bitter almond scented fume that clings to the body and is visible like steam. Chakra is required to maintain the enlarged pores and allow the fumes to continue to escape the body, but no further handseals are required unless the Jutsu is halted in which case it will need to be activated once more. Anyone within 3 meters of the user will be affected by the fumes. The fumes do not need to be ingested or introduced directly through the bloodstream, merely remaining within the 3 meters allows the poison to seep through the victim’s skin and attack their tissue and internal organs. As the gas seeps into the body it begins to attack the tissue by causing histotoxic hypoxia, preventing cells in the blood from taking up or using oxygen. The lack of oxygen being used by the body begins to systematically shut down organs that that are sensitive to low oxygen levels. The poison requires one post to seep in, but by the second post the victim will suffer from a diffulty to breathe, dilated pupils, and an irregular heart rhythm as every organ struggles to use what oxygen it can manage. By the third post the rapid shallow breathing alters to abnormally slow respiration as liquid fills the lungs. By the fourth post lack of oxygen making its way to the brain and lungs will cause the organs to cease function killing the victim instantaneously. If one can escape the fumes within the first 2 posts than they will recover from the effects if allowed 2 posts to breathe in fresh oxygen. However, if they have been underthe effects for 3 posts Medical Ninjutsu will be required to ease symptoms and reintroduce oxygen back into the body.

When a Shouki clansmen joins the academy he goes through a special ritual. Four elders of the clan, including the head, place the child in a dark room and perform a deadly fuinjutsu on the child. One mistake could cost at least one of the elders their life. However, in return for the risk they place a seal upon the child’s mind. To ensure that one of the Shouki can never be broken they use this fuinjutsu to place powerful protections in the child’s mind against any who would use genjutsu or ninjutsu to invade the child’s mind for their secrets. If the last protection is broken the seal will automatically activate. It instantaneously sends a signal from the brain to the heart, stopping it. The neural synopsis in the brain are also burnt out during the process, destroying memories so that they cannot be accessed after death. The seal essentially kills its wearer to ensure that no one may have its bearer’s secrets. The seal appears on the chest of the Shouki right above their heart and its appearance is that of three crescent moons. It signifies the brain waves that ensure the Shouki’s loyalty to their village and their secrets. It should be noted that the seal does not protect against the typical Genjutsu used in combat to affect the senses of the victim. This is purely a defense against those techniques that threaten to invade the mind and take information or memories from it. It only goes into effect when the user's own mental defenses fail.

Requirements: Must be Shouki to learn; Must know Kouki no Jutsu (Bad Breath Technique) and Enmu no Jutsu (Smog Technique)
A far more advanced version of Kouki no Jutsu and Enmu no Jutsu. The user performs the necessary handseals while gathering their chakra. The user then takes in a giant deep breath their lungs filling up far beyond human capacity, their chakra aiding the expansion of their chest to accommodate the intake of air. Poison that lines the mucus wall of the esophagus clings to the chakra enhanced air spewing forth dense smog too thick to see in. The smog can travel to a maximum of up to 25 meters before going stagnant. However, distance can be modified shorter by taking in less air. Once the smog has settled it will spread out quickly and is large enough to cover half a village. When it has stopped growing the smog will stay intact for up to 8 posts though by the 6th post density should lighten enough to be able to make out blurry forms. Anyone inside the smog will have coughing fits and be unable to see. If they try to expose their eyes for more than 2 posts inside the smog they will become temporarily blind and will be unable to regain their sight for another 3 posts afterwards. Unlike Enmu no Jutsu this smog is purely for obstructing vision and does not induce vomiting.
Clan Taijutsu
Name: Sutairu Ryuu (Snake Style)
Description of Style: The snake style is built around maintaining a low stance with fast quick striking movements like that of a snake. The user is constantly on the move circling around their opponent like a snake coiled around its prey. The user will then lash out with quick striking accurate attacks that use their fingers to strike at their opponent. The muscles along the arm and fingers are especially trained to create powerful thrusting motions with iron strong hands that can break bones and cause intense pain to their targets. Their legs are used to lash out at their enemies tripped and trapping targets so that they cannot escape and are pulled in further against the onslaught of attacks. All this is used in conjunction with the Shouki jutsu of their clan to add the element of poison to their taijutsu and permeate the air around them with gas and fumes that will eventually kill their enemies if the taijutsu does not finish them off first. In the beginning shinobi only get a small grasp of this style simply learning how to properly maneuver their arms and body. However, as they train and practice more they develop and understanding of properly placing their attacks, combine them with his Shouki jutsu, and eventually focus all their training in enhancing their speed and power to create the lightning whip like speed and powerful penetrating force it is renown for.

Taking a quick step in the user moves in past their target’s defense. Once close enough, they lash out with two quick strikes from their hands in movements that mimic a snake. The first strike is aimed directly at the eyes while the second is simply a jab to their shoulder. The shoulder jab does little damage other than some slight stinging pain. The first strike though can damage the eyes and cause agitation for the rest of the fight if the user hits dead on.

The user must first lure the enemy into attacking with Taijutsu. When the attacker extends their limb investing in the attack the user snaps his body or the targeted limb back much like the head of a sneak rearing back and then lunges forth in a pattern that follows the returning path of the limb used to attack the user with. Once in range the user snaps their hand forth and uses the fingers to bash the bridge of their opponent’s nose. The weak cartilage located in the nose make this attack very capable of breaking it. Although not lethal in any way the nose will continue to bleed unless some medical attention is applied and can be distracting for the victim in battle.

Name: Fukinukeru no jutsu (Blow through technique)

This technique allows the ninja to utilize powerful strikes. The user builds up chakra into his palm and then thrusts forward twisting his arm back and forth in increased speeds. When the attack strikes the chakra and rotation of the arm creates a corkscrew effect. This movement acts as a drill that can easily penetrate normal attacks and any defensive jutsu C-rank and below. If contact is made the Taijutsu has the potential to create deep bruising or slight penetration if blades are equipped to the hand or fingers.

The user will launch himself at his opponent and then maneuver around the opponent’s guard while striking forth with a barrage of lunging strikes with his hands like a snake rearing back and attacking. The quick barrage of strikes although not as powerful and damaging can quickly overrun an opponent’s guards and land numerous hits.

The user uses whatever means necessary to get in close range in front of their target. The user then attacks with a flurry of thrusting hand strikes aimed at whatever flesh they can make contact with, even if limbs are being used as a defensive posture. The attack is aimed at drawing as much blood as possible. The user will continue for some time before backing off and leaving an opponent with many cuts and gashes along his body. Although the cuts themselves are mostly superficial any application of poison ensures that the victim will be exposed through the various cuts along their body.

This attack must be done from behind. Whether this is done through method of stealth, surprise, or greater speed and use of coiling does not matter. Once behind the target the user lashes out with a powerful chop to the back of their opponent’s neck and then a double thrust to the temples’ of their target. The force of the attack should jar the head creating a concussion almost immediately and jarring the brain enough to cause it to go slightly numb. This in turn will produce mild blindness for up to 3 posts until the brain manages to jump start once more and properly take in information through the neural processes. This blindness can be turned to just blurry vision if the user can effectively cleanse their eyes with water and cool of their head for 1 post or of course it can be completely healed if a strong enough medical ninjutsu is used on it.

The user confronts their opponent and waits for an opening. When an opening is given the user coils to their target’s side and moves in with two simultaneous strikes. Focusing chakra into both hands to make them more durable and stronger one hand targets the elbow while the other moves in for the knee. If successfully struck the force behind the attack added with the chakra is enough to break the bones in both places effectively shattering them and making it extremely difficult for movement. The wounds can be healed through strong enough medical ninjutsu, but while in battle they will be almost impossible to use and will cause extreme pain. All unhindered movement afterwards will fall upon one side of the user’s body.

This technique is an advanced form of the C-rank version. The user builds up an even greater amount of chakra into his palm and then thrusts forward twisting his arm back and forth in increased speeds. When the attack strikes the chakra and rotation of the arm has creates a greater corkscrew effect. This movement acts as a drill that can easily penetrate normal attacks and any defensive jutsu A-rank and below. If contact is made on actual flesh and bone one can expect broken bones where contact was made. However, there is also a certain amount of splash damage as well. If a shinobi were to throw up their arms in a guard for example not only would the forearms of the shinobi be potentially broken, but there would be some bruising along the chest. Normal shields and weapons would not be able to withstand the strike while special chakra enhanced (or simply powerful) weapons would be able to better withstand (although multiple strikes could begin to wear and crack the item). On top of this the user will be pushed back 10 feet if properly guarded and sent soaring back 20 feet if the attack was completely unchallenged and hit directly.

When in direct physical combat with their opponent the user will draw upon all their training to perform this technique to their fullest. While in front of their target they shall concentrate chakra into their arms and legs. The chakra placed in their legs will help to keep them anchored so the speed of their thrusts do not drag them forward while the chakra in their arms will help increase speed. They will then whip arms in lunging attacks at their opponents. The arms move at frightening speed. After each flurry of attacks the user will coil around their opponent moving one leg to circle around the target while the other moves in between the target’s legs to keep them trapped and preventing them from moving successfully and escaping. After a full 360 degree attack the user will stop. If successful the body will be littered with blood and gashes. During the maelstrom of strikes the user will also go after tendons along the arm and back thighs as well as a deep penetrating strike to the spine, the use of poison during this process is common and done to make their target sluggish and slower to defend these important and vital parts of their body. If successful the body should also be sufficiently paralyzed and can be dealt with how the user sees fit.
