Mission Title: Retrieve the Scroll Mission Rank: A Pay: 250.000 Ryo Information: A scroll with confidential information pertaining to Konohagakure's government has been stolen by bandits led by a B-Rank Nukennin. Their camp is settled 20 kilometers southeast from the village. Please retrieve the scroll at all costs!
Noriyuki left the Uchiha compound and checked if he had all his gear. He was clothed in his regular shinobi gear and had his custom high-collared white cloak with the black raven design on. He greeted a few people around the compound as he left the area and very soon took to the rooftops.
Jumping from roof to roof, Noriyuki arrived at Konoha's front gate. Upon arriving, he drew out the mission scroll from behind his back and opened it. He began to the read the details it entailed of and tucked it away behind his back once he was finished.
"Let's do this." He said as he prepared to move out.
Noriyuki began his long journey to the bandit camp. He broke off into a run, leaving his village behind. He knew the journey would be long and tedious, but he was well prepared for that. Moving into the surrounding woods, Noriyuki took to the treetops. Jumping from tree branch to tree branch, he used the technique to cover more ground. Not only would it help him cover more distance, but the foliage would also act as a means of concealment for his identity.
As he leapt from branch to branch, Noriyuki did some quick math. If he maintained the pace he was moving at he would reach the halfway mark of his odyssey within an hour at best. That's where he planned to stop and set up camp to catch breath before moving on to attack the camp in the dead of the night.
As he moved Noriyuki listened to the soothing sounds of the woods around him. The rustling trees, the gentle breeze and the cries of forest creatures were natures call and the only company he had for the long journey. The loneliness and quietness of the trip was what he needed. He was left alone with his own thoughts as company and he liked that.
As he bounded from one tree to another, Noriyuki's hair billowed in the breeze, along with his cloak. He let out a gentle sigh and picked up his pace.
'This is going to be a long trip...' He thought as he began skipping trees after gaining a burst of momentum.
An hour and a few minutes later, Noriyuki had made it to the halfway point of his destination. He had covered a lot of ground due to the pace he moved at, but lost some time after having to take another route from his initial path due to a hick in the road. Jumping down from the trees, the shinobi hit the ground of the woods with a soft 'thud'.
Standing up straight, he scanned the area carefully, even using his Sharingan, but saw no existing threat. He removed his cloak and backpack off his back before setting up a small camp. Within minutes he had started a fire and had began preparing a cup of tea. He knew the stay would be brief as he needed to move out soon to make up for the time he had lost.
Night was quick approaching and he planned on reaching the camp before it got too dark.
Noriyuki took his time in finishing his tea. He savored each sip of the hot beverage as he looked up at the darkening sky. Once finished, he packed away all the items he had used to make the tea in the backpack and put it on. He then proceeded in putting on his cloak and extinguished the small fire.
Launching himself back into the treetops, Noriyuki continued on with his journey. He had cut his break a few minutes short, seeing that he did need to make up for the lost time. He jumped from tree to tree at a fast speed, but was careful not wear himself down too much. He paced his movements carefully by slowing down his speed every now and then to catch breath.
Another hour of travel finally brought Noriyuki to the bandit camp. The night was cold and brought a light breeze with it. Noriyuki stood alone aloft a tree, his only vantage point from the looks of it. He had scouted the area closely from the trees and counted about twelve heads belonging to the group of bandits. Their camp was set in a fairly large clearing with multiple tents surrounding a big one which he guessed was the leaders. Most of the bandits were in the clearing, going about their business whilst four of them patrolled the area. Noriyuki still hadn't seen the leader the whole twenty minutes he was there for and was beginning to think he was couped up in the tent.
'A head on attack into the camp would be suicide...' Noriyuki thought as he watched the activity below him. He needed to go in quiet and unseen for as long as possible. Thinning as much of their numbers as he could without being spotted was the plan.
Now that he had decided on what approach he would be taking he could finally get to work. Taking out the four patrolling men would be the first step in this. He had observed their patterns and how they worked in conjunction. They were traveling in pairs and were operating on a rotating formation. Two of them were on the ground, walking clockwise around the camp whilst the other pair were in the trees moving in an anti-clockwise direction. The formation kept Noriyuki on the move. He couldn't stay in one location or he'd get caught.
Moving into the tree line, Noriyuki got to finding the two bandits on the ground. He had his Sharingan turned on as he leapt from tree to tree. He had to time his movements cleverly. It took about five minutes for each pair to complete a rotation around the camp and come back to a starting point. If he was in trees when the tree pair came 'round they'd definitely catch him. He had to drop down prior to that to avoid detection. Good timing was all this bit required, something he was sure he had.
If his calculations were correct the next pair that was coming around would be the ground pair. He stopped on a branch and prepared for an ambush.
In the process of setting up the ambush, Noriyuki created two lightening clones and had them hide on the ground in positions where they couldn't be compromised. As the clones did this, he prepared some shuriken's for the assault. Once finished he waited patiently for the pair.
A few seconds later Noriyuki could hear the voices of two males. They seemed to be arguing about something, but he payed no mind to it as he remained still and quiet in the trees. As he expected the voices belonged to the patrolling pair of bandits on the ground. They drew closer and closer and were now directly below Noriyuki.
"Hey, when is it the end of our shift? I'm starving." One of them said as they moved away.
"A few minutes just hold on there big guy." The other responded.
"Woah! Who the hell are you guys?" Noriyuki heard one shout. His two clones had jumped out of their positions and had intercepted the pair. They now stood there, blocking the pathway of the two criminals.
"My cue..." Noriyuki said from above before hopping down as quietly as he could from the trees. He had three shuriken in each hand and was ready to take out the enemy force.
"Hey, these are -" One of them tried talking but was cut off by the pain of four sharp objects meeting his back. He dropped to his knees and fell to the ground without saying another word.
The remaining shinobi turned to look at the Uchiha with a frightened look on his face. "Surprise, surprise..."Noriyuki said with a smirk. The remaining man was then taken down by two kunai's to the back, thrown by his clones.
Noriyuki dispersed the clones and quickly disposed of two bodies before preparing for the next ambush. He jumped into the trees and positioned himself in a seated position where the next two would be coming. Forming the tiger hand seal, Noriyuki said: "Nehan Shouja no Jutsu - Temple of Nirvana Technique" he streched the range of the genjutsu as far as it would go and simply waited whilst maintaing the technique.
Very soon the next pair arrived and were not pleased with Noriyuki's presence. They tried attacking him but their advancements only brought them into the range of his genjutsu. They both found themselves under the spell of the technique and went drowsy with sleep before being sent into a deep slumber. Noriyuki dispelled the jutsu and wasted no time in slitting the throats of the duo.
Now done with the guard, Noriyuki headed back to their camp to do further reconnaissance and decide on an approach to deal with the rest of the group.
Noriyuki had devised a plan for the remaining eight bandits. Around the camp he positioned six clones, each of which had two paper bombs stuck to their backs. On his mark they would all charge into the camp and get themselves as close as possible and that's where he planned on detonating the explosives.
'One...Two...' Noriyuki counted in his head as he watched the camp from his position in the woods. There was a group of four located around a fire, the second group consisted of two men who were talking next to a tent and the final two were eating by a second fire. The leader wasn't in view but Noriyuki could see a chakra signature in the large tent in the middle. 'Three.'He reached the end of his count and watched on as his clones began the assault.
Noriyuki's first two clones headed for the group of four, his next pair attacked the second group by the fire and his last two attacked the chatting bandits by the tent.
Everything seemed to going as planned. For the first few seconds of the infiltration the clones went unnoticed. It was only later where the group of four bandits took note of his two approaching clones. They had managed to land several kunai hits on one of his clones which burst into lightening. His remaining clone did however manage to get close to the group who were now sending a barrage of attacks at him.
Meanwhile all of Noriyuki's clones had made the necessary advancements towards their targets. Each of them were now in close vicinity of their targets and the camp was in utter commotion as the forces fought it out. The leader had now made it out of the comfort of his tent and was deeply angered by the incursion.
In that moment, Noriyuki detonated the paper bombs and several bangs filled the air simultaneously, making the sound of one loud 'BOOM!'. The leader tried jumping into one of the conflicts, but was stopped in his tracks as the explosions went off and the force knocked him back.
The triggered explosives created a gust of wind as they exploded. Noriyuki raised his hand to cover his eyes from the dust and debris as he walked out into the open. Thick clouds of smoke filled the air and were slightly obscuring his line of vision. Drawing one of his swords, the Uchiha continued on into the thick smoke clouds with his Sharingan blazing. Ahead of him, he could see the chakra image of the fallen bandit leader and he could hear the soft moans coming from the body.
Finally reaching the bandit leader, Noriyuki looked down at the injured leader.
"I should have known Konoha would send someone." The leader said with a cough.
"Yeah, yeah, now where's the scroll?" Noriyuki asked.
"I'm not telling you." The leader replied.
Noriyuki sighed at his response and with a stab to his heart, ended the man's life on the spot.
Sheathing his sword, Noriyuki searched the bandit's body for the scroll. He found nothing but a key as he patted down every inch of the rogue shinobi's body. Grabbing the key and standing up straight, Noriyuki took some time to think of the scrolls whereabouts. He looked around the camp and could only see one possible location of where the scroll could be; the bandit leader's tent.
Making his way into the tent, Noriyuki briefly scanned the living space. There was a single flickering candle that sat on top of a chest in the corner of the room and a single unmade bed beside it. The light emanating from the stick brought much needed life to the boring and plain setting. Noriyuki began his search for the scroll by looking around and under the bed. He found nothing around the area and was left with the chest as his only viable.
He tried opening the wooden box, but learned it was locked. He pulled out the key he found on the bandit and slotted it into the lock. Turning it, the chest let out and audible click and Noriyuki opened the box. He checked the box for it's contents and found a bunch of identical scrolls.
Noriyuki let out a bitter chuckle as he picked up one the scrolls and gave it an analysis. "Clever... he said as he realized what this was. One of these was the real thing whilst the others were decoys. A tactic which would delay any thieving hands. "Real clever..." he said, with a slight smirk.
Noriyuki spent a good hour trying to separate the real from the fakes. He had went through each and every scroll, trying to spot any differences, but they all seemed to look the same. Even with his Sharingan on, the Uchiha couldn't find the real one. He had went through all dozen scrolls but couldn't establish a difference in even one of them. Frustration was building inside the ninja and he clearly had, had enough.
"I knew this was too easy!" he exclaimed as he kicked the chest and sent it rolling across the room. Just then a single scroll rolled out from the box. Just then, Noriyuki crossed the room and picked up the scroll. It was different from all the others. The ribbon holding it closed was green in color and had the Leaf Village insignia around it. No doubt was this the one but where did it come from?
He took a second look inside the chest and found a secret compartment inside of it. "Hmm, can't believe I was such an idiot." Noriyuki said, shaking his head.
Deactivating his Sharingan, Noriyuki prepared to take off. He slotted the scroll inside his backpack and walked out of the tent. He quickly took to the trees and began his journey back home. He couldn't be believe how tired he was. He just couldn't wait to get home and get the much needed rest he deserved. The mission took quiet a toll on him and his brain felt dead.
Late next morning, Noriyuki had reached the gates of Konoha. He made what seemed like a long journey to the Hokage's office and delivered the scroll. He then made it back to the Uchiha compound where he collapsed onto his bed and went straight to sleep.
