Since we can't seem to get teh Bijuu balanced out enough to make a Jinchuuriki system, we have decided to try and replace Bijuu with simple Yokai, mythological creatures of japan. Anyone will be able to add to the list at the moment, but I, and I alone, will have the final say in which get to be on the site.
So, everyone, please search out famous Yokai of japanese lore, and list them here, with a short summary of what they are, and maybe some suggested abilities. I will start here.
Kyuubi no Kitsune [Nine tailed Fox]
Stories depict them as intelligent beings and as possessing magical abilities that increase with their age and wisdom. Foremost among these is the ability to assume human form. While some folktales speak of kitsune employing this ability to trick others—as foxes in folklore often do—other stories portray them as faithful guardians, friends, lovers, and wives.
Suggested Abilities: ---
Bake-Tanuki (Changed Raccoon Dog)
As the tanuki, the animal has been significant in Japanese folklore since ancient times. The legendary tanuki is reputed to be mischievous and jolly, a master of disguise and shapeshifting, but somewhat gullible and absentminded. It is also usually shown using it's scrotum as drums... we may just ignore that xD
Suggested Abilities: ---
Yamata no Orochi (Eight branched giant snake)
"It had an eight-forked head and an eight-forked tail; its eyes were red, like the winter-cherry; and on its back firs and cypresses were growing. As it crawled it extended over a space of eight hills and eight valleys." Yamata no Orochi was a giant eight headed dragon killed by Susanoo.
Suggested Abilities: Mokuton(due to the forest on its back)
Bakeneko (Changed Cat)
A cat where the tail has forked into two due to old age, granting it powers akin to that of the Baketanuki and the Kitsune, with the ability to walk on two legs. In some stories, their fur is static. They were also said to be able to manipulate the dead.
Suggested Abilities: Maybe Raiton? And Ochiba style ninjutsu?
I think I'm done for this time around.
